excerpt

The entire mass of guys sitting around my station flocked to Val’s, giving me some time to clean up. I looked up to find only one guy left, and he was watching me intently. It was the same guy Ty had greeted so enthusiastically earlier.

”Can I get you anything?” I asked, taking empty glasses off the counter.

”A smile. Give me one and I guarantee you’ll get the biggest tip tonight.” The slow seductive tone rolling from his shapely lips told me he wasn’t just fooling around. His green eyes stared at me like I was dessert. This guy was hot and he knew it. He was looking me up and down, biting on his lips. He was clearly not afraid to show me how much he liked what he saw. Me. His confidence and determination were fierce. The way his tousled light brown hair went every which way, hanging down across his forehead, told me right away he didn’t care about his looks. He didn’t have to.

He wanted a smile? I shook my head. ”You don’t want a drink? Just water, maybe?”

”No, just a smile. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and it’s just a smile I want.” He brushed his hand through his hair, making it even more tousled.

I knew I was blushing and bit my lip in embarrassment. His eyes refused to stray from mine, pinning me in place. I smiled, but not because he’d asked. No, this smile was solely because this random man had pulled it out of me himself. I saw the humour in his eyes as he slid fifty bucks out of his pocket and onto the counter. ”Thank you, Princess. You just made my night.”

He got up and walked away. I could see the hint of tattoos peeking out around his neckline and beneath his rolled up sleeves. His black Converse were worn out, giving him a laid back look and his perfectly fitted washed-out jeans fell low on his hips, accentuating what looked to be the most perfect ass I’d ever seen. The black, long sleeve Henley he wore was tight in all the right places. There was something about his mysterious and inscrutable demeanor which made me wonder about him. He’d wanted to get my attention and, well – he’d gotten it.

Who the hell was he? I knew he was the guy Tyler had been excited to see, but I’d never seen him around the club before. I knew I’d have remembered that tantalizingly gorgeous mystery man.

He didn’t give me his name and I didn’t give him mine. Not that he had to ask – I wore a name tag with my name engraved on it. It was the strangest thing which had ever happened to me. My eyes continued to focus on him until he opened the door of the club and left. I found myself still watching the door, even after it was closed, as though I wanted to chase after him – which was insane. I shook my head, willing myself to move on.

I began wiping down the counters, pausing to watch Val entertain her groupies at the NA-BIASstation next to mine. As I turned to grab more lemons, my eyes were drawn again to the door. Tristan sauntered in with a few of his friends hanging around him, laughing at something one of them had said. Tristan had admitted to never visiting Black Shakers before and even after our dinner date tonight, I still hadn’t expected to see him turn up so soon. I couldn’t seem to figure out if I was excited by his surprise visit, or nervous about it. It felt like he was parading a bunch of his buddies around my bedroom, looking through my dirty laundry. This was my home away from home and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to let him in—yet. Not to mention I was still shaken up by the strange interaction with Mr. Mysterious.

Shouts from Val’s station caught my attention again. Val was lying on the counter and Bekka was squeezing some lime juice onto Val’s stomach. I wasn’t sure who was supposed to get the next shot, but right now, I needed it to be me. I made my way around the bar with determination as I kept the drink in my sights. Tipping my head back, I drained the liquor from the glass, and licked the lime juice and salt from Val’s belly. All eyes were on me now, as if I was some sort of prize. It was just a shot for heaven’s sake. The customers were used to this performance, most of the girls behind the bar were doing body shots throughout the night. The first time I visited Black Shakers to hang out, the waitresses did at least two shots each. As far as I was concerned, it really was no big deal.

I walked back to my section and was immediately surrounded by applauding and drunken guys, asking for my phone number. I laughed it off as I always did – none of them would get it. It was just one aspect of working in a club, dealing with the slobbering, horny drunks. At least I could handle their testosterone-fuelled innuendo now, and if anyone ever got out of hand, there were always bodyguards standing by to watch our backs.

BRAND NEW TEASER!

MMW 3 Teaser

As if reading my mind he bent down, wrapped his fingers under my knees and lifted me. My legs wrapped around his waist while my fingers tangled themselves in his soft dark strands of hair. I kept our mouths together, sucking his tongue deep into my mouth. His teeth bit down onto my lip the taste of blood dripped against my taste buds, but we didn’t stop. He took a firm grip of my hips and pulled away breathless.

We panted together, our eyes flickering through a myriad of emotions as we held our gaze.

“Are you fucking my nephew?” He finally asked. The usual deep British accent became a rough heated growl that send a chill down my spine.

The throb between my thighs became more persistent as I wanted nothing more than for him to dull that ache. I didn’t even care how. Just as long as he was the one delivering the magical bliss.

“Answer me.” He demanded.”

He didn’t blame me as I stepped in front of him, pulling a deep drag into his mouth. The taste of nicotine and whiskey swirled in my mouth. My eyes rolled back into my head for just a moment before I focused back on him. My breath hitched as my hypersensitive body imagined his tantalizing lips taking my nipple between his teeth.”

She got into her seat and drove us to I-didn’t-know-where-yet. The music was playing softly in the car. I was having difficulty with noises, they were making me irritable but the melody was nice so I was okay. We were getting closer to Avery’s house. At least I hoped we were going to her house, because I was frightened to be alone. I needed her, in more than one way. When she turned to the right, I knew we were going to her place because my house was over on the left. I bit the inside of my cheeks to subdue a smile. A few seconds later, Avery parked the car in her driveway. She undid my safety belt, then hers. She got out of the car to help me out, then grabbed my bag and arm-in-arm we walked to her door.
”Calm down, girl. I’m not dying, I’m okay. I can feel your body trembling.”
”I can’t calm down, Remy.” She unlocked the door and pushed it open. ”I lost Carter, okay? He’s gone,” she cried. ”And I came this close,” she showed me a tiny gap between her fingers, ”this close, to losing you too, and that tore me apart.” She put my bag on the table. ”When Megan told me what happened, I passed out, because I couldn’t believe I was going to have to go through this again. We waited twenty-four hours before we finally got the news that you were alive.”
I felt terrible. ”I’m sorry, girl, I’m so sorry.” I pulled her towards me and wrapped my arm around her. She cried and she sobbed against my t-shirt. Ave was in a terrible mess. ”I promised you I would come back, and I did.” I kissed her hair. ”I’m so sorry I had to come back in such a dramatic way.”
”You’re alive, Remy.” She almost never called me by my first name. ”It’s all that matters.”
”I know, Avery.”
We were silent for a moment, her sobs calming down and she regained control of herself. It broke my heart to see her like this, she’d seemed so strong at the hospital and I was just realizing it was a facade. In that instant, I knew we both needed rest and we both had a lot on our minds.
”I think I need to lay down, Ave, I’m getting a little dizzy. I’ll go to my room.” She squeezed me with all of her strength, one last time, before releasing me.
I got to the guest room. There was a bouquet of daisies on the night table. She’d changed the sheets and comforter on the bed for a navy blue one. I made it to the bed just in time, my vision had gone blurry. I sat on the corner of the bed and closed my eyes. The fact that she wanted me to stay here was great, but damn, this was fucked up. She still continued to ignore everything I’d said to her. It made me anxious and the best thing I could do was lie down and chill out. Being around her was even harder now. I put my arm over my eyes, to hide away from the light in the room. Turning it off required too much physical effort for now.
”Remy, are you okay?” Her voice was low.
”Can you turn the light off, please?”
She did and then removed my shoes. I shifted up on the bed and she placed my legs under the comforter. ”Do you feel any pain?”
”It’s not too bad, I can manage.” My head hurt constantly, no matter what I did. In my shoulder, the bullet had torn a muscle and damaged the bone severely. They had to screw the bone together in three different places. It would never be as strong as it used to be, but at least I was alive.
”Okay…” She stayed in the room looking at me. It had me confused, did she want to talk or something?
”Is everything OK, Ave?” I needed to know.
She nodded. ”It’s just good to have you here. I missed you.”
Okay, she was giving signs she wanted to talk, but I thought maybe she wasn’t ready just yet.
”I missed you too, girl.” I smiled.
She returned my smile with one of her own, she seemed suddenly shy and her cheeks flushed. ”I thought about what you said to me a lot. It scared me at first but then, I felt like I already knew about it. Things cleared up in my mind. How you were always looking after me, always making sure I was okay. I should have known, but I only had eyes for Carter. I still love and miss him every single day.” She took a deep breath and rubbed her eyes. ”But… I felt things were different prior to your deployment and I understand now. I didn’t hate it, I liked it. Being closer to you makes me feel better. I need it, but I can’t promise you more than that.”
”What are you saying, exactly, Avery?” I could feel a wave of tingles rush through my body. What did she mean? It was so out of character for her to be so shy.
”I’m saying I still love Carter, I probably always will, but I also like you and need to be around you. I can’t promise you anything, but we could try and see if it would work out.”
”I’m not a consolation prize, Avery.”

The Intern (Volume 1) Review

Intern

* * * * *

I was given the amazing opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. The premise alone captured my attention. I absolutely love the idea of that forbidden love. What I embarked on was something much more than I ever expected!

Blurb

She’s sexy, fierce, and a loud-mouthed know-it-all…and she’s completelyoff limits.

Cecilia isn’t your typical college student. Hell, she isn’t a college student at all, but that doesn’t stop her from applying for one of the biggest and prestigious enterprises in the Midwest.

She wants it. She takes it.
She doesn’t let anything get in her way when it comes to finding out the truth.

When Bentley Leighton, soon-to-be CEO of Leighton Enterprises, meets “Ceci,” he’s instantly impressed. He doesn’t have time to train a new intern. However, when he sees her that first day, his intentions begin to change.

He’s the boss. She’s the intern.
Nothing can happen. It’s against the company rules.

Then again, rules were made to be broken.

What starts as innocent flirting becomes raveled up into so much more—secrets, lies, deceit.

Review

* * *

The first thing we learn about is that our main girl Ceci West has had a devastating past. She was a total daddy’s girl and one day he was tragically murdered while she was watching. Ever since then she has made it her duty to find out the truth behind what happened and bring justice to her father’s loss. To bring peace to her family. And essentially, to move on.

From the start I loved the fact that Ceci wasn’t an innocent little girl that hadn’t been introduced to real world chaos. She is wise beyond her years and her interests lay solely with finding out more about what happened to her dad. That is until she meets Bentley.

In the beginning Ceci is in control. She knows what she wants and that is all that matters. Ceci refuses to let anything get in her way. When she starts an internship at Leighton Enterprises her plans are rattled when sexy model/bad boy/CEO-to-be Bentley Leighton is drawn to her.

I absolutely loved the connection between them. I loved Bentley’s domineering ways and how this big man seemed to crumble around this one woman–girl. Ceci seems to be in control of him and her but as passion and lust take over, she loses all ability to think clearly. But in a moment of clarity Ceci remembers the mission she had and realizes that she can’t have it all.

Does she pursue the goal she has had since the moment her father was killed? Or does she give in to a man that makes her forget about her past and live–for the first time?

Secrets… Lies… Deceit…

This book really had it all. A great story line, a mystery that keeps building–making me need to know more. A sexy as eff man and a woman who knows who she is. Brooke’s writing style kept me intrigued from start to finish. The pace of the story was steady, not too fast that I was getting whiplash and not too slow that it was dragging on. There is more coming and even though this is a serial length book, I knew it and I expect it. Plus now I just want MORE!!

This was a fantastic read, and I can’t wait for the rest of Ceci and Bentley’s story! The Intern Volume I was absolutely incredibly but I can tell this is just getting started! I can’t wait to see what Brooke has in store for us!
